House Republican Leadership Plan for Redistricting (House)

Urgent Alert for Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Speaker Bill O'Brien and his leadership team have released a redistricting plan for House districts in subcommittee this morning; the plan will have a public hearing tomorrow, Thursday, December 15th at 1:30 PM in the Legislative Office Building, Rooms 306-308.

The House calendar references that the amendment will be available on the redistricting website starting at 1:30 PM today - the public will have exactly 24 hours to process this information and form any public comment or testimony.

While House Leadership refused to provide copies to anyone other than subcommittee members at today's committee meeting, Granite State Progress has secured a copy and posted it here for the earliest public availability.

Granite State Progress has launched a sign-on letter calling on Speaker Bill O'Brien (R-Mont Vernon), Redistricting Chair Paul Mirski (R-Grafton), Vice Chair David Bates (R-Windham) and the members of the Redistricting Committee to provide for a 30-day public comment period on any redistricting plans before they are voted on, and to allow public comments to be delivered in person or in writing, via hand delivery or electronic submission. This request was also made by members of the public at the county public hearings held this fall. You can view the sign-on letter here.

In the meantime, we urge all who are interested to review the House Leadership redistricting plan - and the other, contrasting plans -- at your earliest convenience and either attend in person tomorrow or contact your legislators in advance of the final vote. Please do not hesitate to call on us if we can be of any further assistance in this regard.
